Rail Trails Australia says it’s hoping many visitors will sample the best of the WA Rail Trails as well as the superb food and beverages that the west is renowned for. Close to Perth are two excellent trails to check-out: the Kep Trail, a 75 km section from Mundaring Weir to Northam and the 59 km Railways Reserves Heritage Trail. The Heritage Trail is a TrailsWA “Top Trail” and can be enjoyed as a ride out-and-back or a short section walk.
Of course, those in the eastern states are also throwing out the welcome mat to WA family and friends to come east and experience the wealth of trails in SA and Victoria, so jump onto the Rail Trails of Australia website and start planning those visits. With most states now having eased COVID restrictions, many public holidays in March plus the longer break later at Easter looming, there will be plenty of opportunities to get back and enjoy the outdoors once again. Finally, a reminder that Tour de Trail, a family-friendly bike ride along the Great Victorian Rail Trail (GVRT), is taking place on the 13th of March. Starting and finishing in Mansfield, cyclists have the choice of two destinations: Maindample at 28 kms return or Bonnie Doon at 44 kms, which includes riding across the iconic Lake Eildon rail trail bridge. Entry fee includes refreshments (tea/coffee/cold drinks) at either turn around location with a coffee van/truck, plus a sausage sizzle on your return to Mansfield,
Live music, coffee van and ice cream vendor on-site.Booking is essential online at Trybooking (Tour de Trail 2022).
