Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams reckons the city is perfectly positioned for the Nomad drive market. 'Located in the centre of the Pacific Coast Way (aka Bruce Highway), where the Australian Country Way and Leichhardt Highway meet, Rockhampton is the perfect destination for nomads to ‘curb their caravan’ as they make their way up the east coast on their winter escape to the Sunshine State,' he said. 'Our region has amazing experiences and tours suitable for mature-aged travellers, from historic museums in Mount Morgan to wondering through the Botanic Gardens, experiencing the Rockhampton Museum of Art, enjoying a river cruise and discovering the accessible Nurim Circuit. And having recently taken out Gold in the 2021 Grey Nomads Awards for Best Trail Experience in Australia, Rockhampton is now more than ever on the radar of Australian nomads as a destination that caters towards their want for authentic experiences offering comfort, flexibility and good value for money.' Advance Rockhampton executive manager Greg Bowden says Grey Nomads are one of Explore Rockhampton's key target markets as they spent $12.2 billion in domestic travel across the country in 2019, before Covid locked things down. He says Australians aged over 55 represent one of the biggest opportunities in domestic tourism recovery.
The campaign will run until May, with the targeted travel period being June through to August. Follow the link for the Explore Rockhampton campaign to find out more or find them on Facebook.
