A visit to the unique town of Mount Gambier was the perfect addition to our 2024 agenda and it was well worth the trip. Nestled along South Australia’s limestone coast, it took a fair journey to get there for this year’s CMCA Rally. For some of our team, it was their first time representing KT Insurance at an event (alongside our veteran rally event team), and seeing the gratitude and appreciation our customers expressed throughout the week was truly rewarding. Here’s a quick recap of the highlights.
The drive from Melbourne to Mount Gambier, with endless fields of canola and towering windmills, provided more than enough scenery for the five-hour journey. Our one stop along the way was a small deli in Lake Bolac. A couple of bacon and egg toasties and schnitzel sandwiches later, we were back on track, driving through Glenelg National Park and over the South Australian border.
We stayed at the Henty, a quirky motel just up the road from the rally grounds. Noky, the motel’s restaurant, quickly became our go-to for breakfast and dinner. With a solid menu, we relied on it all week. Our waiter, Alwin, was great, working split shifts and taking care of our table each day. From porterhouse steaks with mushroom sauce to lamb shanks with couscous, it’s safe to say we were well looked after on the meal-front.
But enough about our food – we ready and eager to cook up a storm for the AGM morning tea attendees, following an insightful presentation from Con who spoke about everything from maintaining your RV, to vehicle values, depreciation and windscreen repairs!
So, bright and early Monday morning, we loaded up over 1,000 sausages, 1,000 beverages, and 50kg of onions, threw on our aprons and gloves, fired up the barbecue, and got cooking. The weather was less than ideal – wet, windy, and cold – but that didn’t stop the anyone from saying hello and grabbing a free snag!
After Monday’s barbecue rush, we settled into the trade stall for the rest of the week. It was the perfect chance to chat with our customers, answer their questions, and hear their stories. The feedback we received was fantastic and only reinforced our commitment to delivering excellent service.
Outside of the rally hours, during our free time, we made sure to explore some of the local sights. On Tuesday, we visited the Umpherston Sinkhole – a sunken garden filled with lush plants and vines. It was a stunning view, hugely contrast from the sea of motorhomes at the rally. And on Thursday, our final day, we made our way up to Blue Lake. It’s easy to see how it got its name – the view from the top was incredible.
Our final commitment at the rally was awarding prizes at the close of the renowned CMCA Rally Disc Bowls event, and it was a great way to finish off the week.
Spending a week with KT customers and experiencing the RV lifestyle firsthand made us even more appreciative of the work we do. We’re already looking forward to next year’s rally in Orange and hope it’s just as successful as this one.
